I know what you mean about 'religions' - I did try to go to different churches and houses of worship, but could never get past the declarations that "WE are the ones", and everyone else is inferior and must be redeemed. I knew in my heart that it wasn't right, because there are so many good people all over the world, regardless of their background or how they worship. Anyway, I stumbled across Buddhism completely by accident, and the rest is history :)

Right now most of my posts here will be in reference to the gratitude practice I am developing. I love thinking, studying, and writing about Buddhist concepts, but working on gratitude is what I need in my life right now. Nevertheless, I hope you enjoy the posts, and if you are really looking for some thoughts and background of Buddhist philosophy, feel free to check out the 'basic Buddhism' tab at the top of the page.

Looking forward to your future comments and insights, thanks for stopping by!

With Metta,
Renata _/\_Renatahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02443520247398112519noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1350618880009072374.post-38407247904976960272018-01-19T20:18:50.814-05:002018-01-19T20:18:50.814-05:00Dear Merry,

I am on the start of a spiritual awakening.its very intense and i'm dealing with it on my own and using the net at the moment to make sense of whats happening. My awakening has been triggered by somebody i have met and to whom i feel a strong energy from and a spiritual connection. last night I dreamt that both our names were written upon a lotus petal.a voice or person in the dream told me sona had written upon the petal. As soon as i awoke i have researched it.My dream has a deeper meaning that im looking into and exploring. interestingly the person whom i dreamt of is musical plays an oud. i found the lute connection interesting. It seems that there is so much misinformation out there, not just about Buddhism, but about everything. In our consumer culture, one thing we consume the most nowadays is information. It is becoming more and more clear that in our consumption - and passing on - of information, we must also be responsible for making an honest effort in determining that what we learn and pass to others is actually true. I know mistakes happen, and I know I have made them myself, but it is a time to be vigilant.

With Metta,

RenataRenatahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02443520247398112519noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1350618880009072374.post-71866895907871194802014-03-01T17:50:06.318-05:002014-03-01T17:50:06.318-05:00Thank you. I got these 18 rules twice in the last ...Thank you. I got these 18 rules twice in the last week and I doubted it immediately. Today even my Buddhist teacher sent it via a Losar New Years Greeting and I questioned its origin also immediately to him.

Thank you for your checking and clarification.

In the past I stumbled upon "a recording of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and his entourage chanting prayers at the sickbed of his dear friend Vaclav Havel" – you find this also on YouTube. But this mantra is also a fake:

http://spatula.net/blog/2007/03/not-dalai-lama.html

It is simply a Hindu Mantra called the Gayatri Mantra. You can learn more about it at the link below.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gayatri_Mantra

In Germany the Dalai Lama was even nastily attacked by a newspaper article for his "naive sayings" but when I checked what they claimed the Dalai Lama said, I found out, that it was not from the Dalai Lama but an anonymous website full of such sayings. The Dalai Lama has a special way of expressing himself and how he renders things, with some carefulness one can prevent to spread things the Dalai Lama never said.

Nowadays even Buddhist centres, like the Centre I studied in Italy, Istituto Lama Tsong Khapa, sell "sayings by the Dalai Lama" like the "Paradox of our Age" printed on nice cloth with colorful designed. However, also this "Paradox of our Age" is not by the Dalai Lama but Jeff Dickson. Details see here.

http://www.snopes.com/politics/soapbox/paradox.asp

I think this is not a good development and I wish people are more careful. In the long run it distorts the real message of His Holiness which is by far profounder than many of those superficial sayings that sound nice but don’t have much of a substance.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13986558137819248654noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1350618880009072374.post-87393680416892204352014-02-12T01:57:35.501-05:002014-02-12T01:57:35.501-05:00Fantastic article! That is why while recognizing my interest, I choose to maintain silence regarding the topics that I do not have the answers to, but just describe some information that I have come across, as I understand it. As you say, the best thing is to just note what we cannot understand and move on.

-Renata Renatahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02443520247398112519noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1350618880009072374.post-52215008558453493822013-11-07T03:12:08.132-05:002013-11-07T03:12:08.132-05:00What you put up here is not wrong nor it is right ...What you put up here is not wrong nor it is right either...
Its good that you begin to question this but is best that you do not solve it under guesswork or supposition of others. The dharma that Buddha shared to us is meant to be investigated by us. So instead of relying on someone else's explanation, I usually encourage people to find out for themselves.

Lets be honest, Atman or soul or consciousness is still beyond my understanding. However becos its best of you not to stray too far from Dharma, that is why I introduced the book. It can still be considered alligned to dharma eventhough it may very well be empty words since both of us never experience it ourselves. Perhaps one day, we will be able to speak of it in a much confident manner. Until then, lets us all continue our practice and walk the path that Buddha has shown so that one day dharma will reveal itself to us.

Anatta is the topic you should look up on although its best just to note it and continue with you meditation. :)

Peace be with you. xenusfreemannoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1350618880009072374.post-64114125831559562162013-11-06T08:11:04.180-05:002013-11-06T08:11:04.180-05:00Ah, thank you xenusfreeman. Like most, I had to learn the hard way about what can happen when we hold too closely to expectations. Although I was not brought up to expect anything in return, often it just happens- especially when we are trying too hard as I was. You are right, it is all part of that 'letting go' process, the one that will eventually free us (and lead to true compassion).

Thank you so much for commenting.

With Metta,

RenataRenatahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02443520247398112519noreply@blogger.com
